Frequently Asked Questions
Planning something beautiful comes with questions. Here are a few things I get asked most often. And if you don't find what you're looking for, please get in touch — I'm always happy to chat.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
1. How do consultations work if I live far away or overseas?
Distance is never a problem. Consultations can be arranged via Zoom or WhatsApp video at a time that works for both of us. Whether you're planning your event from another province or another country, we can work through your ideas, inspiration, venue and requirements together.
2. What do I bring to my consultations?
Anything that helps me understand your vision — your venue details, colour palette, inspiration images, photographs of your dress or outfits, stationery, Pinterest boards, or anything else that has caught your eye. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet. Sometimes the best ideas come from simply talking through what you love.
3. How do I book My Sister and I Studio?
Once you are happy with your proposal and ready to move forward, a 50% non-refundable booking fee is required to secure your date. Your date is officially booked once the booking fee has been received and cleared. I work on a first-come, first-served basis. The booking fee is deducted from your final balance.
FLOWERS AND DESIGN
1. Do you only work with weddings?
Not at all.
I create for weddings, celebrations, corporate events, brand experiences, bridal and baby showers, intimate gatherings, and special occasions. If flowers, styling, and atmosphere are part of the occasion, I'd love to hear about it.
2. How would you describe your floral style?
I don't believe beautiful design needs to fit into one particular style. My work is thoughtful, organic, and expressive, with a strong focus on colour, texture, movement, and the natural character of flowers. I love creating something that feels like you, rather than recreating something I've seen before.
3. Can you guarantee that I will receive a specific flower?
Fresh flowers are a living product, so availability can't be guaranteed months in advance. I work primarily with local, premium flowers and what is naturally available in season, and I will always guide you towards the best options for your event.
Rather than promising one exact flower, I prefer to work with your colour palette, texture, shape, and overall feeling. If a particular flower isn't available, I will source an alternative that creates the same feeling and remains true to the design. Weather, growing conditions, crop availability, and market fluctuations can all affect what is available at the time of your event. The flowers may change. The feeling won't.
4. Can I request flowers I've seen on Pinterest or Instagram?
Of course. Inspiration is always welcome. However, many images online come from different countries and climates, and some flowers may not be commercially available in South Africa. I use your inspiration as a guide to create something beautiful, realistic, and suited to the season of your event.
STYLING & EVENTS
1. Do you also provide decor and styling?
Yes, My Sister & I Studio is not only a floral studio. I also create and style the environment around the flowers, including tablescapes, linen, candles, colour, textures, furniture, stationery, draping and other decorative details. My favourite part is bringing these elements together so that the flowers and décor feel like they belong to the same story.
2. Do you provide event planning and coordination?
Yes, Event planning and coordination can be added to your floral and styling services or booked as a separate service, depending on what you need. From helping shape the overall vision to coordinating suppliers and making sure the details come together on the day, I can tailor the level of support to your event.
PRACTICAL DETAILS
1. What payment methods do you accept?
Payments are made by EFT. You are welcome to pay your balance in instalments, provided the full balance is settled according to the payment schedule on your quotation. The final balance is due one calendar month before your event date, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
2. Do you travel?
Yes — I love creating beyond my usual surroundings. I am available for events throughout South Africa, and travel can also be arranged for destination events. Travel, accommodation, and any additional logistics required for myself and my team will be calculated according to the location and requirements of your event and included in your quotation.
3. What if I don't know exactly what I want yet?
That's completely okay.
You don't need to arrive with a finished Pinterest board or know the name of every flower you love. Tell me how you want your event to feel. We can talk about the colours you're drawn to, the people you're celebrating with, the venue, the season and the little things that matter to you — and from there, we can create the visual story together.
4. What happens to the flowers after the event?
I always encourage my clients to take their flowers home, share them with family and friends, or dry them as a keepsake. Vases and vessels supplied by My Sister & I Studio are hired items and may not be removed from the venue. Any suitable flowers left behind when I return for the following day's breakdown will, where possible, be donated to a retirement home of my choice. I love knowing that the flowers can continue to bring joy long after the celebration has ended.
Still have a question
I'd love to hear from you.
Every event is different, and sometimes the best place to start is simply a conversation.
